DermaVir Patch - Facts Sheet

HIV has 11 main subtypes, and several recombinant variants based on genetic differences resulting in 20-30% variance in antigen repertoires. HIV subtypes have characteristic geographic distribution patterns. Therefore, marketing several subtype-optimized DermaVir Patch products would be advantageous for amplification of the corresponding HIV-specific immunity. Personalized treatment with DermaVir Patch variants might be administered by providing subtype-specific products for different geographical areas. Alternatively, individualized treatment can be administered after testing the main subtype circulating in the individual (e.g. using the presently available resistance testing). Such individualized vaccination would be important in countries with mixed subtype epidemic (e.g. France).
